Design: Eco-Commute

A transportation project for INFO 360: Design Thinking.

My partner, Claire, and I created the mock-ups, design spec, and video. My role consisted of drafting the original wireframes, paper prototyping, editing google.io images, and drafting the design document.

Our Process

We were tasked with the challenge: “how to improve transportation in Seattle.” Knowing traffic congestion is heavy, in spite of public transportation efforts, we designed a game-like application with rewards to motivate people to use clean-energy transportation options. After the success of Pokemon-Go in its “game-ofication,” we realized the importance of making our application fun, usable, and engaging.

What We've Achieved

  • We drafted a broad problem statement regarding traffic congestion in Seattle, narrowing it to have a specific problem.

  • We conducted user research multiple times through various means (survey: data collection, interviews) to understand our target group

  • We have made mock-ups from start-to-end of our design using google.io

  • To make those mock-ups, we originally sketched and completed a heuristic evaluation

  • We create a paper prototype and completed user testing to understand potential design and conceptual flaws

  • We noted design decisions for each screen, from font choice to color choice to position and described rationale

  • We created a video explaining our problem statement, design, and how it is used
